The Afghan snowboard team is hosted in La Clusaz, Haute-Savoie. The young members of this team are threatened with death, because they practice a Western sport and their team is mixed.

Afghanistan Snowboard Team Welcomed To There Clusaz (Haute-Savoie). Composed of Afghans aged 19 to 24, it is the first snowboard team in the country. “Since the return of the Taliban a year and a half ago, the lives of these young people are threatened. First, they practice a Western sport, and in addition, their team is mixed. Of course, it doesn’t please to the country and Taliban”, explains journalist Samuel Ollivier, present on the set of 8 Hours, Wednesday, February 8.

Death threats received

The snowboard team from Afghanistan first found refuge in Pakistan and then in France. An arrival in France made possible by Victor Davieta French snowboarder who created the association “Snowboarders of solidarityto get them to safety. “It’s their passion and potentially it could have cost them their lives. They received death threats about it.”explains Victor Daviet. These young people, who have no papers, “waiting to find out if they will be able to stay in France and, if possible, never too far from the mountains”concludes Samuel Ollivier.
