The music streaming service Spotify has taken down tens of thousands of ai-generated songs after it emerged that the number of listens to the songs had been increased with the help of bots. The songs were created using the service Boomy, where users can generate music in different genres and then publish them on various music streaming services to then earn money through royalties.

Boomy themselves claim that the service has been used to generate over 14 million songs, which they say equates to around 14 percent of all music ever recorded.

Business Insider reports that it was the record company Universal Music that warned Spotify about the discrepancies in the number of listens the ai-generated songs accumulated. The songs downloaded from Spotify must correspond to around 7 percent of all songs uploaded to Spotify via Boomy.
