Exhibitors at the FTTH Europe Conference 2023

Presentation of 180 micron fibers, microcables and optical connection solutions

STL (NSE: STLTECH), a leader in optical and digital solutions, announced that its so far has developed the thinnest fiber – a glass fiber with a diameter of 180 micrometers. This fiber enables the production of cables with the smallest possible diameters and the highest fiber densities. STL presented today at the FTTH Conference 2023 in Madrid, Spain, with a next-generation microcable 288 fibers that can be inserted into 8 mm channels. STL is among the first companies in the world and the first company in India to develop this industry-leading product.

This high density micro cable offers operators and installers the best of both worlds. Measuring just 180 microns in diameter, G657 A2 fiber combines bend-insensitive properties with a fully backwards-compatible cable design, resulting in a “ready to use” Innovation in the optical industry power.

As service providers densify the network with more fiber, duct space becomes a precious commodity. Here, STL’s high-density micro-cable will help operators pack more capacity into limited channel space, reducing costs and deployment times. Regarding the compelling need for this product, Jitendra Balakrishnan, STL’s CTO-Optical Networking said:If it’s a problem for end customers, operators or installers, for us it’s a problem worth solving. We need to make extremely intelligent use of the limited channel space in high- and medium-density areas so that rollouts can happen quickly and cost-effectively. Our product will enable just that.”

This announcement comes after a series of product innovations by STL. Recently the company India’s first Multicore Phaser developed with four times the usual capacity. STL was that first companythe Stellar™ – a bend-insensitive A2 fiber with full backwards compatibility – brought to the market and was one of the Top 2 companies worldwidethe the IBR (Intelligently Bonded Ribbon) Cable Technology into mainstream networks.

In addition to the coveted 180 micron fiber and micro cable, STL will also be exhibiting at the FTTH 2023 conference integrated fiber offering before. STL’s pre-terminated optical connectivity kits – OPTO-BLAZE and OPTO-BOLT – feature plug-and-play capabilities for faster and easier installation, and the OPTO-DOPs are another unique design that eliminates the need to deploy traditional cable spools to drop- locations superfluous. It’s a perfect solution for hassle-free on-demand connectivity.

Commenting on this development, STL’s Paul Atkinson, CEO of Optical Networking said: “The amount of fiber optics required worldwide is immense. In our opinion, R&D and innovation in fiber design will be the most important drivers for future-proof networks. We are intensely focused on product innovations that enable scalable, faster and cost-effective fiber formation. STL’s high-density microcable and integrated optical connectivity offerings will bring great value to our customers. I’m also very excited about the fact that this will significantly reduce plastic in the soil and contribute to our customers’ sustainability goals.”
