Coughs and Co.: Why children often get sick

For the study, published in the scientific journal “Pediatric Research” was published, scientists from the Medical University of Warsaw have over 100 children aged four to seven years studied for 60 days. Factors such as sleep, vaccinations, siblings, pets and whether the children were exposed to tobacco smoke were initially considered.

Study: What helps against children’s diseases

When the scientists daily steps of the children counted, it was noticeable that the more steps the children had taken, the less often they got sick. Accordingly, children who exercise more every day have fewer diseases of the upper respiratory tract.

Conversely, symptoms of the disease were detected much more frequently in children who had exercised less during the study period. They were sick four more days in the 60 days. The researchers came to the conclusion that children with sufficient exercise per year 24 days less sick could be.

Children: So many steps are recommended

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), children between the ages of four and six get daily 10,000 to 14,000 steps recommended. That’s about three hours of exercise. According to the Polish experts, colds in children could be specifically prevented in this way.

The number of steps may sound like a lot at first, but if you replace a few car trips with relaxed walks or take your children with you to go shopping, the steps add up to a lot. Adventures in the forest, on the playground or visiting friends can also be combined with a few steps.

Excursions at the weekend, sports clubs for children and sporting activities as a family also offer plenty of exercise.
