A young Indian from Kerala and traveling to Africa has arrived in Sudan where a coup attempt hits the capital Khartoum.
A 22-year-old travel influencer of Indian nationality found himself trapped in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, during fierce fighting between rival generals, while traveling through Africa, report several media including Euronews.
Maheen S., who manages the Instagram account hitchhiking.nomad with over 200,000 subscribers and a YouTube channel with over 625,000 subscribers, began an overland journey through Asia to Africa. He arrived in Sudan on March 12 and in the capital Khartoum five days before the start of fighting between the army and paramilitaries.
The young man hopes to be able to reach Ethiopia
Due to the violent clashes, he is still stuck in the city. “I woke up the first day to the sound of gunfire and shelling and black smoke in the air. It was so terrifying,” the influencer shared in a video posted to Instagram.
The blogger, from Kerala, India, said he and the people around him were suffering from the lack of electricity, lack of water in supermarkets and shortage of food. He filmed videos of empty fridges and shelves.
Last Monday, the young man said he was almost shot when a person dressed in army clothes pointed a gun at him as he tried to return to his residence. Maheen S. nevertheless continues to document his journey and reports on Instagram about the struggles he experiences on a daily basis. The influencer, who has contacted his embassy, hopes to be able to leave the country quickly to continue his trip to Ethiopia as planned.
