Penn Station.

Train service to and from Penn Station has been suspended during the Friday morning rush hour, rail officials said.

This is in addition to what happened on Thursday afternoon where there was an interruption of Amtrak service between Philadelphia and New Haven.

“Train service to and from Penn Station New York is suspended due to issues with AMTRAK overhead wiring at Penn Station New York. Midtown Direct trains are being diverted to Hoboken,” NJ Transit wrote in a social media message. social.

The problem was further aggravated by bush fires near railway lines in New Jersey.

On Thursday, AMTRAK reported that service was restored at approximately 5:30 p.m., but warned customers to expect significant delays.

Widespread train delays and sweltering heat have made many commutes a nightmare.

“I’m upset because it’s always something different,” said Denise Wooten, who commutes from Montclair, New Jersey, to Penn Station for work. “Delays. This has been going on for too long. Every time you turn around, I just want to get home.”

An Amtrak spokesman said two things were to blame for the service interruptions: wildfires in Secaucus, New Jersey, and a faulty circuit breaker that caused a loss of power on the tracks between the New York and Newark stations.

“I take the train every day, but for the last two weeks, NJ Transit has been really crap. I mean we’ve had really bad service,” said Thurston Green, who takes Amtrak five days a week.

To make matters worse, temperatures soared into the 90s on Thursday, marking the hottest day of the year so far. And underground, there wasn’t much relief.

“Look at me. I’m sweating, it’s hot. It’s too much,” Wooten added, quoted by our sister station NY1.

A heat advisory has been issued for the city starting at noon Friday, with temperatures expected to reach 97 degrees.
