The US Assistant Secretary of State for International Organizations Affairs, Michele Sison, who began a working visit to Algeria on Saturday January 21, met this Tuesday, January 24, 2023, the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic.
During a lively press conference on Tuesday at the headquarters of the US Embassy in Algiers, the Assistant to the US Secretary of State in charge of matters relating to international organizations, Michele Sison, underlined the importance of defenders human rights and independent journalists within States.
Summarizing her exchanges with Algerian officials during her stay in Algeria, the American diplomat also insists on respect for fundamental freedoms.
Michele Sison also pointed out that the question of Algeria’s membership of the UN Human Rights Council for a three-year term has figured in many conversations she has had in recent days with his Algerian interlocutors.
Returning to the last periodic review on human rights in Algeria, which took place last November in Geneva.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra, received, at the Ministry’s headquarters, Michelle Sison, Assistant Secretary of State for International Organizations, as part of the latter’s working visit in Algeria.
On this occasion, talks focused on bilateral relations and prospects for strengthening strategic dialogue and economic cooperation between Algeria and the United States of America. The two sides also discussed a number of issues related to regional and international developments, as well as various aspects related to multilateral diplomacy.
