Boys and girls over 6 months and up to and including two years of age will be able to receive their first reinforcement of the coronavirus vaccine starting today, Monday, January 9, 2023.while those over 3 years of age and adolescents between 12 and 17 years of age will be able to access the third dose, according to what was announced by the Ministry of Health of the Nation.

The expansion of the booster application strategy in the pediatric population was announced last week after a meeting of the Federal Health Council, and based on the recommendation of the National Immunization Commission.

The recommendation of the first reinforcement reaches all those over 6 months and up to 2 years, 11 months and 29 days who have completed their initial regimen against coronavirus 120 days or more ago.

In addition, all girls and boys from 3 to 11 years of age and adolescents between 12 and 17 years of age who have applied the first reinforcement 120 days or more may receive the second booster.

As reported by the Ministry, so far only 4.5% of those over 6 months and up to 2 years inclusive received the first dose; while in the population from 3 to 11 years old the application of the first dose reaches 81.8%, and among adolescents from 12 to 17 years inclusive it reaches 92.3%.

Regarding the complete initial scheme of girls, boys and adolescents, 24,289 girls and boys from 6 months to 2 years were reached, 66.2% of the range between 3 and 11 and 81.2% from 12 to 17 years.

The first reinforcement was applied to 2.9% of the population between 3 and 4 years of age; 13.7% of those from 5 to 11, and 38.2% from 12 to 17.

To date, only 1.21% of adolescents between 12 and 17 years of age with immunocompromised received the second booster.

The Ministry of Health of the Nation recalled through a statement that “It is very important that reinforcements continue to be applied to the entire population, prioritizing people aged 50 or over and those with risk conditions”.
