The following applies to the future state government more than ever: We need policies for a strong economy. Only then can Berlin remain a strong city and master the challenges of our time. Parties need to get out of the election campaign and look for commonalities rather than differences. The goal must be a stable and effective coalition that will advance the city.

The new Senate’s to-do list is long. It is important to relieve companies of taxes, regulations and bureaucracy, especially in the current difficult situation. Instruments like the planned training levy are bureaucratic monsters and relics of yesterday.

In addition, economic policy must not be defined by the payment of subsidies, but must enable companies to work innovatively.

We also need more quality in education so that companies can find enough young people. Administration must become more digital and more efficient. Transport policy calls for clever concepts for commercial traffic that do not rely on exclusion and barriers.

We also need a clear “yes” from the Senate to more housing construction. Berlin must also make progress in terms of energy and climate. It is important to support decarbonization and at the same time to do everything to ensure a secure and affordable energy supply. All of this should take place in close partnership with Brandenburg.

Concepts are on the table for all topics. Industry is available as a partner and designer. Politicians have to check and discuss less and approve and implement faster.

In the column “In the Lobby” leading heads of clubs, associations and chambers of Berlin’s economy formulate their opinions. It always comes out on Mondays.
