In connection with Microsoft announcing cuts in its workforce, it was clear that some departments would be affected more than others, something we are now also getting to confirm. Namely, it looks like the team behind Hololens is heavily affected and Windows Central reports that Microsoft will shut down the majority of teams working on Hololens and Windows Mixed Reality. Two concepts that, despite being technically impressive, did not manage to make any further impact on the market. So it is hardly strange that Microsoft thus chooses to put them on the backburner, even if it is of course incredibly boring.
Microsoft has announced that they plan to continue supporting and updating the Hololens platform in order to meet the competition, but how many will be actively involved in this is not clear.
