The fate of Sam Levinson’s sulphurous series “has not yet been determined”…

The Sultry Adventures of Lily-Rose Depp et The Weeknd will they end in blood sausage? According le New York Postciting an unnamed HBO source, The Idol will not be renewed for a second season. After only two episodes, the American channel would have judged that its controversial drama did not deserve to return.

Rare thing, HBO absolutely wanted to deny this info in a tweet: “It is incorrectly reported that a decision on a season 2 of The Idol has been determined. It has not, and we look forward to sharing the next episode with you on Sunday night.”

The Post argues that The Idol does not intend to go further, quoting this insider: “It was never meant to be a long-running series. We always talked about a limited series.“But HBO claims that”the door is definitely still open for a sequel and a season 2. It’s definitely not a decision we’ve made yet. At this point, it’s normal in our process… We’re only two episodes away.”

Nevertheless The Idol has had a bumpy ride for months. It was the filming that first raised questions. Then the prestigious series generated very contrasting reactions in Cannes, during its event screening on the Croisette. Finally, the first “live” audience results (broadcast on Sunday evenings in the USA) were hardly flamboyant, with 913,000 viewers for episode 1 and 800,000 for episode 2. The Idol succeeds, on the other hand, very good scores in replay, even allowing the strange drama to do a little better than The White Lotus et Euphoria at a comparable time. Still, the “hype” hoped for with such a series will obviously not take place. And Sam Levinson still has a season 3 ofEuphoria to do for HBO…
