Theater and technology

On stage, Greg and Anaida are the two protagonists of this story. The first is an eminent neurosurgeon and the second a psychotherapist. The dialogue that they will have before the public covers a wide spectrum of issues ranging from the ravages of the passage of time to climate change and wild urban development in the city. Beyond the two of them, there is a third character, a young patient who never appears on stage but who will be present throughout the entire work, in the dialogues or in the projections by the well-known film director and visual artist. Dinorah by Jess Rodriguez.

She, along with Christina Acosta and John Stevens, two artists based in Tampa and invited by Antiheroes to collaborate on this project, will make a reality of what could be the first Latin theater work presented in the city with techniques of video mappinga modality of image projection that allows projecting onto three-dimensional surfaces, including the body of the actors or set elements to create an immersive experience.

Liquid City, Liquid City in English, will use at least six projectors to recreate this rich environment, and to do so it also has the support of the Sandrell Rivers Theater technical team. However, the most important asset of this project are its two first-rate actors, the well-known Juan David Ferrer and Maribel Barrios, with a long and recognized career, national and international, who carry out vibrant acting work that promises to remain in the spotlight. spectator memory.

Another of Antiheroes’ guest artists on this occasion is Portland-based percussionist and composer John Niecrasz. Mr. Niecrasz will perform the soundtrack of the work live using a collection of drums and musical instruments and a technique similar to that known as singing bowls. This will undoubtedly become another of the attractions of the staging of Antiheroes, a multidisciplinary team that has been characterized by its innovative and participatory character in the theater environment of South Florida.

Regarding the above, Antiheroes’ commitment to the inclusion and participation of diverse audiences in the cultural life of the city has led the organization to present several blind plays, another theatrical modality in which Antiheroes has been pioneer.

Although Liquid City is not strictly a blind play (a type of theater in which spectators remain blindfolded to enjoy the experience through the other senses), Liquid City includes some olfactory sensory stimuli, to increase the immersive component of the piece.

As in most of its premieres, this work will have English language surtitles, programs in Braille language and bilingual programs with enlarged print (large print), as well as guided tours of the stage for people who are blind or have low vision. Thanks to the collaboration with Sandrell and the Fantasy Theater Factory, the Antiheroes production will also offer devices for assisted listening (Assistive Listening Devices ALD) and accommodations for people in wheelchairs.

The set design of the play will be in charge of the visual artist Rosee Camafreita, and the costumes are by the actress and also visual artist, María Belén Curiuni.

Ticket prices will range from $20 for people over 65 and students to $25 when purchasing tickets in advance or $30 at the door on the day of the performance. For discounted tickets ($25), please visit the Sandrell Rivers Theater website through the following link.
