After the coronavirus, place for the employment crisis and inflation. Between lack of work and rising food prices, Algerian students in France are increasingly facing financial difficulties.

The year 2022 was not easy, 2023 will be more difficult. Why ? The French government is already planning several price increases for next year. According to the first forecasts, inflation will climb to 7 percent at the beginning of the year.

But not only. The prices of public transport and energy will also be marked by a significant increase. In Paris, the Metro ticket will go from 1.90 euros to 2.30 euros. The monthly subscription will increase to 84.1 euros against when it was previously at 75.2 euros.

In addition to the increase in public transport subscriptions, energy prices (gas and electricity) will increase by 15 percent. Those who paid for example 1000 euros per year, they will now pay 1150 euros.

The employment crisis adds another layer

In addition to the series of price increases announced for 2023, Algerian students in France will also face the employment crisis. In Perpignan, for example, very few students have been able to find a job.

“I have been here for several months to study mathematics. Unfortunately, I still haven’t found a job. I submitted applications everywhere, but no one contacted me,” says Yassine, an Algerian student who arrived in France this summer.

“Living without work is very complicated. In addition, everything has become expensive. For example, 1 kilogram of potato has gone to 2 euros. If it weren’t for the associations that help us with food parcels, we would have ended badly, ”he adds.

Unfortunately, the employment crisis does not only affect Algerian students. The French are also concerned. The reason: the big brands no longer take student jobs.
