The Cuban police arrested a young man who allegedly fled after the violent robbery of a motorcycle in Moa, Holguín, and where another man who allegedly accompanied him in the commission of the crime was killed.

The official portal in Facebook “Realidades desde Holguín” said that the assailant was identified as Arnaldo Bueno Barrientos, “author of the robbery with violence in Moa and in turn of the accident that caused the death of Reinaldo García Parra, his company in the criminal act.” Both were residents of El Cristo, in the neighboring province of Santiago de Cuba.

Now the detainee faces charges of robbery with violence and homicide, said the aforementioned page, close to the Ministry of the Interior (TO MENTION).

The robbery occurred two days ago in the Caribe neighborhood of the municipality of Moa. The assailants threatened and tied up to the driver of a motorcycle identified as Yoandris Vázquez, and they fled, the note specifies.

A police car that passed by the place helped the victim and began the pursuit of the alleged bandits, he clarifies.

However, during the pursuit, the men entered the municipality of Sagua de Tánamo and in their attempt to evade the patrol they collided with a staircase, after which the passenger who was in the back seat of the engine flew out of the vehicle and died consequence of the fall, explains the source.

Bueno Barrientos fled again, leaving García Parra, who was left lying on the asphalt. The wounded man was taken to the “Juan Paz Camejo” hospital in Sagua, where he died.

According to the image of the detainee, published by the official profile that does not respect the presumption of innocence, it is a very young person.

These reports by official accounts try to extol the work of the Cuban police in the face of the strong criticism that their agents receive from the country’s population, but they show an exponential increase in violence throughout the country.

In provinces like Holguín, for example, crime has increased so much in recent months that the authorities, always so reluctant to provide information about these events, have had to admit that there are reasons “for the population to be alarmed.”

According to the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), in violent robberies white weapons are used to strip the victims of cell phones, electric motors, cycles, wallets and other objects.

In the first months of the year, 57 thieves have been caught, of which 53 are unemployed. Some of them are only between 17 and 21 years old. All remain detained under criminal proceedings.
