– We got a biogas car because it was what we could afford but which was still environmentally friendly without having half a million in the pocket to buy an electric car, says Jenny Rydhammer who is one of the administrators of the Facebook group “We who drive Biogasbil”.

But after gas prices have gone up, it is not always so economical to drive a biogas car anymore.

“Choosing to drive on petrol more and more often”

Johan Törnkvist began to notice that the prices in Gothenburg – which are among the most expensive in the country right now – began to increase slowly. Then he created the basis for the mind map.

– Then I filled up for 20 kroner a kilo and started to think it was expensive. But now the prices here in Gothenburg are over SEK 40 per kilo. Maybe we can influence prices with consumer power.

Now the group’s members contribute prices around the country and it is easy to see that there are big differences.

Critical to larger players

Several members of the group are critical of how gas always becomes more expensive when a larger player takes over. Like when a major player took over Borås Energi’s gas station recently and the price increased by SEK 7 per kilo overnight.

– We see it happening all the time. As soon as a larger player takes over, the prices increase, says Jenny Rydhammer.
