On the morning of this Saturday, April 15, several banners appeared against the criminal group known as The Michoacan Family in at least seven municipalities in the state of4.
“All united against The Michoacan Family”, can be read in the texts of the banners that were placed in the municipalities of Chilpancingo, Tlapa, Iguala, Juan R. Escudero, Atoyac, San Jerónimo and Tecpan de Galeana.
In another part of the text, it states “tired of kidnappings, extortions and collections of property. Att. Guerrero Federation.
The Michoacan Family has increased its presence in the state of Guerrero in recent months, which has forced some inhabitants to leave their communities.
At the beginning of April of this year, it was announced that due to the constant threats of this criminal group, they forced about 34 families of San Antonio de las Tejasa town in the Sierra de Warrior anchored in the municipality of Coyuca de Catalán, to abandon their places of residence to safeguard their integrity, who had to leave behind their heritage due to the alleged stalking of The Michoacan Family.
The threats began at the beginning of March, when an armed command arrived in the town and began threatening its residents.
According to reports of the event, they were around 200 people of all ages —between older adults and minors— who left their homes aboard trucks and ATVs to go to the municipal seat of Tecpan de Galeana.
The intention of the inhabitants was to take temporary refuge from the threats of the criminal group, while in San Antonio de las Tejas only four families remained.
Jovany Cortéz, municipal commissioner of Coyuca de Catalán sent a letter on March 23 to the local authorities to demand security in the demarcation, as well as the installation of a military base.
In the text it was indicated that the inhabitants have no connection with any criminal group and are peasants who are dedicated to agriculture and livestock, in addition to having programs such as “Sowing Life”for which they grow avocados, apples and peach trees.
“On March 7, 2023, there was an attack on our town by unknown persons and they also asked us to vacate the place in three days. Since then we have received constant threats and drone surveillance (…) We believe that what they intend to do to us, stripping us of our heritage, is an injustice,” the document reads.
The threats would have been perpetrated by presumed members of The Michoacan Family. The inhabitants claimed to have “documented evidence of requests to institutions in charge of providing security with little or no positive response.”
Because of these events and in the face of threats, dozens of families decided to leave their homes behind. land, crops and animals to protect his life.
These threats could be derived from the death of Orbelín Hernández Peñaloza, alias Fatwhich occurred on March 20, subject identified as presumed square boss of the criminal group La Michoacan Family in Coyuca de Catalán and in Ciudad Altamirano, which was dejected in a confrontation with members of the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena) in Guerrero.
The members of the Mexican Army were attacked by possible members of La Familia Michoacana, which resulted in the death of two soldiers and five alleged hitmen killed, two of the fatalities were sons of Orbelín Hernández.
