Did you start to get a buzz after getting the COVID vaccine? The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that immunization against the coronavirus may be linked to tinnitus.

According to the WHO, one of the new side effects is this hearing disease, which only people who have been vaccinated against COVID or who suffer from this condition can hear.

Tinnitus is also on the list of long-term COVID symptoms published by the UK’s National Health Service, alongside fatigue, shortness of breath, dizziness and other conditions.

Additionally, a study published in 2022 in the Journal of International Audiology found that 15 percent of adults with COVID-19 reported tinnitus symptoms.

“There are many viruses that have an impact on the ears, including those that cause measles, mumps and rubella. It could also be that the medicine used to fight COVID-19 is making the tinnitus worse,” said Eldré Beukes, the audiologist at Anglia Ruskin University in England who led the study.

In July 2022, the European Medicines Agency added tinnitus as a possible adverse effect of the Astrazeneca vaccine, while Johnson & Johnson, in February 2021, included it as a possible adverse effect in

USA.

What is tinnitus?

Mayo Clinic explains that tinnitus is when you feel a ringing sound or other noise in one or both ears; the sound you feel when you have tinnitus is not external and is not heard by other people.

Tinnitus is a common problem. It affects between 15 and 20 percent of the population and is particularly common in older adults.

How long after does hybrid immunity against COVID-19 fade?

It is also caused by an underlying condition, such as age-related hearing loss, ear injury, or a disorder of the circulatory system.
