According to Deadline so Apple has bought the rights to a new thriller series, based on the book by the author couple behind the pseudonym Lars Kepler. Lazarus is Kepler’s seventh book about commissioner Joona Linna and topped the sales list in 2018.

A man is found murdered in his apartment in Oslo. It turns out that the dead man was a previously unknown grave desecrator and trophy collector. When the police open his freezer in the kitchen, they make a terrible find with a direct connection to Joona Linna. He realizes that the old serial killer Jurek Walter is alive despite the strong evidence of his death. Everyone thinks Joona has gone paranoid, but he is convinced that he must act immediately to save his daughter.

Whoever will play the serial killer Jurek Walter will therefore be none other than Tom Hardy. Emmy nominee (Atlanta) Zazie Beetz will take on the role of police officer Saga Bauer, if rumors are to be believed. Directing is Øystein Karlsen, best known for the acclaimed Norwegian financial series Exit, which will soon have its third season.

Lazarus will be only the second film adaptation of Lars Kepler’s novels, even though the couple sold millions of books worldwide. The first was Lasse Hallström’s Hypnotisören, which is the first book in the series, with, among others, Tobias Zilliacus in the role of Linna and Mikael Persbrandt as the hypnotist. Why they now choose to film the seventh book is written in the stars.

No premiere date can be reported at the time of writing, as the project is only in its infancy.
