Daniella Levine Cava urges county residents to prepare for hurricane season

MIAMI.- Following the declaration of the state of emergency on Wednesday night, Daniella Levine Cava, mayor of Miami-Dade, offered an update on the situation in the county affected by intense rains and flooding since last Tuesday.

“We have been working proactively since the rains started. “Now we are working full time to protect our residents and businesses,” the mayor said this Thursday, June 13, at the county’s Emergency Operations Center, located in the city of Doral.

“We are preparing infrastructure to reduce flooding and risk points, while directing our attention to problem areas where we think flooding may occur.”

The councilor said that “according to the National Weather Service, the county is still under a flood emergency.”

Levine Cava urged residents to stay safe, stay indoors, avoid flooded areas and remain vigilant for potential dangers.

“Last night I declared a state of emergency in Miami-Dade, as a necessary step to protect the well-being of our community throughout the county. This measure gives us the opportunity to respond more quickly,” said the mayor.

He reported that rain will continue to fall through Friday night across South Florida, “generating the conditions experienced these days.”

“Although we see clear skies this Thursday, we expect torrential rain to occur throughout the day.”

The National Weather Service predicts four more inches of precipitation in the county and some areas could see up to 10 inches.
