For several years, Malin Persson has decorated a bunch of Norwegian homes and gardens. She is not particularly concerned with trends, but rather with styles.

Although she loves the old, romantic style, she is not averse to playing with other ideas.

She believes 2023 will be an exciting style year, for several reasons.

Japanese meets Scandinavian

– There are quite a few different types of styles now, which I find very interesting. A clear furnishing style is something called “japandi” – the Scandinavian meets the Japanese, she explains to TV 2.

The style involves a lot of minimalism, but with lots of warmth where the palette can consist of beige tones and wood colours.

– It is stylish with a lot of wood in different shapes and tones. I think we will see a lot of that in 2023.

At the same time, she sees a growing interest in a more futuristic entry.

– Slightly crooked shapes, slightly unexpected color combinations. I think it’s about having the combination of the old, nice feeling, but also the modern. Slightly rougher objects that can fit in – futuristic furniture as you call it, she says.

Reuse and a focus on sustainability have dominated the interior scene for several years. Persson believes the focus on durability will continue, also in 2023.

– The focus is on quality materials that will last over time. Perhaps you focus more on a special style that you know will last for a long time, instead of short-term trends.

Resilient color year

In recent years, the color chart has concentrated primarily around beige and warm tones. Persson still believes the palette will dominate, but predicts some new, vibrant color choices.

– I think there will be some red tones. Even clear blue, and some lavender. You weave in the new colors that work well together with the beige.

She believes that a base that is nice, calm and harmonious is a good idea to have at the bottom, before you can then complement it with other colors and shapes that can be replaced, depending on the season.

– When it gets colder outside, you can bring in elements that make it cozy and pleasant. It is easier to replace materials, but the base is the same, she explains.

– To summarize, I think that the homes will be quite stylish, at the same time with a lot of personal details. The wonderful feeling of old meeting new. Everything from vintage finds to reuse, which also works as futuristic and cool furniture, she sums up.
