Tragedy in Miami-Dade, murder-suicide in front of bank leaves three dead, including a child

MIAMI.- Three people, including a child, died in a suspected murder-suicide that occurred Friday morning outside a bank in southwest Miami-Dade, according to authorities.

The incident took place around 7:30 a.m. in the Kendall West shopping plaza, located at the intersection of Bird Road and 152nd Avenue in southwest Miami-Dade.

Miami-Dade Police Detective Luis Sierra explained in a press release that an on-duty sergeant was patrolling the area when he heard the gunshots. When he arrived at the scene, he found the three bodies.

Sierra said a woman who was in a minivan with a child apparently stopped at the Chase bank ATM. At that moment, a man in a pickup truck approached and began shooting, killing the woman and child.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the man then shot himself. The alleged gunman was found dead in the passenger side of the minivan.

“Everything indicates that the man shot at the minivan and then took his own life,” Sierra commented.

The body of the child, whose age has not yet been confirmed, was found in the car seat. The identities of the deceased have not been revealed.

Sierra added that homicide detectives are investigating the relationship between the three people involved.

“At this time, we do not know the family ties; homicide detectives are working on the investigation,” Sierra said.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a firearm was recovered, but there is the possibility of another at the scene.
