Borussia Dortmund has already completed its squad planning for the coming second half of the season. With a number of returnees from the injury break, BVB did not feel compelled to add personnel in the winter transfer window – and in all likelihood will not do so.

So far, however, it is completely uncertain how the black and yellow will start the next season. The contracts of eight BVB pros expire at the end of the season. Sports director Sebastian Kehl has finally given a previously undecided professional an ultimatum.

Contract expires in the summer: BVB wants planning security

Youssoufa Moukoko has been dominating the BVB-related headlines for weeks. Borussia Dortmund made it clear early on that they wanted to extend the expiring contract. So far, however, Moukoko has not wanted to be pressured into making a decision. BVB now wants planning security.

Opposite the sports magazine “table football” emphasized Kehl: “We have put together a very attractive offer for him that gives him plenty of room for development. That should lead to a decision. He has to meet with his environment and his advisor.”

Since the 18-year-old has been at the club for seven years and has developed into a professional and national player in the Ruhr area, Kehl wishes Moukoko would accept the offer. And as soon as possible:

“Youssoufa can now accept this offer and commit to Borussia Dortmund – or we will go our separate ways. I would like him to choose us because his development is not over yet and I see huge potential in him . But there are limits for us as a club. And we have shown these limits. Now it’s up to him to confess in a timely manner.”

At least this personal detail would have been clarified before the opening game against FC Augsburg on January 22nd, “so that the boy can devote himself entirely to the sporting challenges”according to Kehl.

Future of Marco Reus and Mats Hummels still open

Meanwhile, Moukoko is not the only BVB professional whose contract expires in the summer. The working papers of Raphal Guerreiro, Anthony Modeste, Luca Unbehaun, Felix Passlack, Mahmoud Dahoud, Mats Hummels and Marco Reus also end in summer 2023.

“From talking to both of them, I can say that we are very relaxed about the situation.”, Kehl explains to “Kicker” when asked about Reus and Hummels. When it comes to other personal details, you “still have to look at one point or another to see how things are developing.”

Mats Hummels recently said that he wanted to wait and see how things would develop for him. Marco Reus recently surprised with ambiguous statements about his further career path, which could possibly lead him to Saudi Arabia. So Sebastian Kehl should still have a lot of work to do in the coming weeks and months.
