United Airlines plane loses wheel during takeoff in Los Angeles

The aircraft operating United Flight 1001 was carrying 174 passengers and seven crew members, but no one was injured and there was no property damage, the company reported.

It landed 25 minutes late in Denver, in the central United States.

“Great job by the crew,” said one person who identified themselves as a passenger on the flight on Reddit.

Emergency landing

“The pilot announced that a tire might have been lost on takeoff,” the post’s author wrote. “He continued to Denver as planned. He would make an emergency landing. The crew taught us the emergency procedures.”

Boeing said in an email that it delivered the aircraft in 1994, three decades ago, and that it discontinued production of the 757-200 in 2004.

The Federal Aviation Administration, the government agency responsible for regulating civil aviation in the United States, is also investigating the incident.
