Seven months after the repeal of the nationwide basic right to abortion in the USA, thousands of anti-abortion activists gathered yesterday (local time) in Washington for their annual “March for Life”.

They carried signs reading “Pray for an End to Abortion” and “Love Life – Choose Life” and a cross reading “In Memory of Aborted Children.”

Disputed judgment of the Supreme Court

In June, the US Supreme Court, with its conservative majority of judges, passed the landmark decision “Roe v. Wade” which had enshrined a nationwide fundamental right to abortion. This gave states the right to severely restrict or ban abortion. Numerous conservative states have now done so.

The Supreme Court’s decision in June on the highly controversial issue of abortion rights triggered a political earthquake. She was hailed by anti-abortion advocates and outraged by abortion advocates. President Joe Biden’s Democrats used the topic, among other things, in the election campaign before the midterms in November to mobilize voters. The Biden administration has announced the goal of maintaining access to abortion despite the Supreme Court ruling.
