Caracas, May 10. The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry received a delegation from Chile on Wednesday to address “various issues of binational interest,” one day after the Government of Gabriel Boric reported on the trip of this official commission to “negotiate” with Caracas new flights to repatriate Hundreds of migrants stranded on the northern border of this South American country.

“We received, at the Foreign Ministry, the Secretary General of Foreign Policy of the Republic of Chile, Alex Wetzig, who, along with a delegation, are on a working visit to our country to address various issues of binational interest,” the Venezuelan vice minister reported. for Latin America, Rander Peña, on Twitter.

The official, who shared several images of the meeting on the social network, did not detail what these issues of bilateral interest were discussed with the representatives of the Chilean government.

Chile’s foreign minister, Alberto van Klaveren, said on Tuesday that his country’s government wants to “know Venezuela’s willingness to generate new flights.”

“The information that your Embassy in Chile has given us is that there are several citizens who want to return,” said the minister during an appearance before a parliamentary commission.

In addition to Wetzig, the delegation visiting Venezuela is made up of the consular director general, Rodrigo Donoso, according to what Van Klaveren said at the time.

A plane transferred this Sunday to Venezuela a total of 115 migrants stranded for weeks on the northern border of Chile, who could not return to this country or enter Peru due to lack of documentation.

The flight, which departed for Caracas from the border city of Arica, 2,000 kilometers north of Santiago, was paid for by the Government of Nicolás Maduro and is part of the “Vuelta a la Patria” program, thanks to which nearly 30,000 Venezuelans from 25 different countries, according to official figures.
