After the controversial celebration of Emiliano Martínez with a doll that wore a mask with the face of Kylian Mbappé, it was Patrick Vieira -former soccer player and current coach- who repudiated the actions of the Argentine goalkeeper, stating that “it was a stupid decision”.

“What I saw from the Argentine goalkeeper takes a bit of the shine off what Argentina achieved in the World Cup,” the current Crystal Palace coach said first. Despite the fact that the celebration was repudiated in some areas, other fans decided to take the act as a joke and understood the emotion of the world champion archer.

In this sense, the former footballer maintained that “sometimes emotional decisions cannot be controlled”, although he later launched that “It was a stupid decision on Martinez’s part to do this.“.

“They won the World Cup, but in the stands they were also the best.”

As a footballer, Vieira -born in Dakar, Senegal- wore the colors of the French team in the 1998 World Cups -in which he became champion-, 2002 and 2006 -he finished runner-up after losing the match on penalties against Italy-.

On the other hand, the coach highlighted the support of the Argentine fans in the stands during the tournament. “I want to have a photo of the Argentine fans with the passion and affection they showed during those matches. Of course, they won the World Cup, but in the stands they were also the best“, he acknowledged.

He also criticized the discriminatory comments from some fans. “I want to keep that in mind and not think about those stupid fans who put a bit of darkness over what Argentina achieved on and off the pitch,” concluded the French coach.
