The second season of the anime Vinland Saga has arrived, and it has presented us with a very different view of the world compared to the previous season of the hit anime.

Vinland Saga is the popular anime adaptation of the manga created by makoto yukimuraand during the first season, produced by WIT STUDIO, garnered positive reviews. Follow the story of Thorfinn, a young Viking warrior who is caught up in a succession struggle between King Sweyn’s heirs and ends up being sold into slavery.

Yes ok Thorfinn He doesn’t fight for the love of battle like many of his Viking peers, he is still motivated by a desire to rise through the ranks of his warband to one day challenge the man who killed his father.

Whereas, Vinland Saga season 2 is produced by Studio MAPPA, which caused some fans to fear that this would cause a loss of quality for the anime, but episode #1 proves that this was not the case. As in the second arc of the manga, the story abruptly changes perspective.

The first episode follows Einar, a young man from England who has lost his father in a previous Viking attack. Einar wants to protect his mother, sister and his people, but his dreams are shattered when the Vikings attack again, killing his family and burning his house to the ground. Einar is captured and sold into slavery, leading to his fateful meeting with Thorfinn.

For a long time, the Vikings practiced slavery as a crucial part of their social and economic system. While Vinland Saga season 1 certainly wasn’t afraid to show the violent and bloodthirsty nature of its protagonists, the story was still told from the perspective of the Vikings as it dealt with their internal struggles.

Now, the first episode of season 2, tells us from the perspective of a victim. Einar’s experience as a slave shows the more brutal and cruel side of Viking society, making the story of Vinland Saga that much deeper and more nuanced.
