Technology is advancing very quickly, but not everything is positive in this sense, since cybercrime is unfortunately quite up-to-date, a situation that caused virtual crime to end in red numbers in the past and recently ended 2022.

To prevent the problem from spreading further, a recent 2023 Predictions report from BTR Consulting, a company specialized in technological risk management, revealed the trends in fraud and virtual scams carried out last year and anticipated the main threats for this year.

Recommendations to avoid being scammed

It is important to highlight that the main conclusions of the analysis reflect that the greatest care must come from the human factor, since technological risks can often be generated by the lack of information or ignorance to prevent or attack cybercrimes.

Gabriel Zurdo, CEO of BTR Consulting, assured that “cybercriminals seek to exploit our increasing dependence on connectivity. Phishing techniques, malware, ransomware, loss of privacy, theft of bank details, passwords and filiation data are some of the modalities and forms of attack that continue to mutate and become increasingly efficient”.

The trends to take into account to avoid virtual attacks and scams in 2023 are:

Phishing.

· Ransomware attacks.

· BEC or “Business Email Compromise” attacks.

· Mobile malware.

· Cyberactivism.

· Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IOT or Internet of Things) in cybercrime.

· Credit card not present fraud.

· Data breaches and leaks.

· Cryptojacking or the act of hijacking a computer to mine cryptocurrency against the user’s will, through websites, or while the user is unaware of it.

· CryptoFraud.

“The priorities for States, companies and institutions should be to strengthen their defenses and privacy regulatory frameworks, train work teams to reduce human error”, they concluded from BTR Consulting.
