Milvia Arrué went with her children to visit the new Far Rockaway public library.
“We are happy because it is a new opportunity for all the parents and students as well, who sometimes do not have the opportunity to have somewhere to go and spend time. And it is very nice how they have done it now,” said Milvia.
Meanwhile, William Fleming arrived to use the computer and print out a job. He said he had been waiting for the work to be finished for six years.
“They always said when are they going to open, when are they going to open? And it happened now, thank God we have the library, this is a very important part, it gives another view to Far Rockway,” said Fleming.
The new glass-walled structure was designed by an international architectural firm and has more space than the previous building. The project cost about $39 million.
This is one of three libraries in Queens that are open 7 days a week.
The manager of the premises says that they have different programs available in Spanish, as it is a community that continues to grow in the neighborhood.
We have bilingual reading and craft programs for bilingual children, said manager Nicole Gordon.
They also want to offer English programs and bilingual homework help.
“Well, I would like to take English and also computer science, that’s what I’m most interested in right now to know how to defend myself and help the kids with their homework and all that,” Milvia added.

The library has 30 thousand books available in Spanish and other languages.
In addition, users have access to 32 computers and cultural events for all ages.
