Despite an admittedly rocky start, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 a complete success, even if we are in our test were not consistently satisfied with the title. The popular Free battle royale mode Warzone 2 also enjoys great popularity and has already accumulated millions of players. But there is a massive problem in-house anti-cheat system Ricochet works up front and not properly causing frustration for gamers worldwide. But where exactly is the problem?

Players are getting shadow bans in Warzone for no reason

The ban system Ricochet, which is used in Warzone 2, is mainly based on player reports. If a player has been reported often enough for allegedly suspicious behavior, he receives a so-called Shadow Ban. This is intended to identify cheaters as early as possible. After all, more and more people are trying to gain an unfair advantage, usually at the expense of the fun of others.

The big problem, however, is that players, especially streamers, often end up with one due to the report-based system unlawful shadow ban obtain. So does the Warzone streamer Doug. According to his own statement, he was first unbanned, only to be banned again shortly afterwards. He has a very clear opinion of Ricochet. “Having the public decide who is and isn’t a cheater through a simple reporting system when they lose is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen.”

Under Doug’s post, there are a number of players reporting similar problems and all of whom are quite frustrated.

What is a shadow ban?

A shadow ban is a feature of Activision Blizzard’s in-house ricochet anti-cheat system, currently used in Call of Duty titles. If a player is reported particularly often because of supposedly conspicuous behavior, he will receive a so-called shadow ban. This means that in future more closely under the magnifying glass is taken and is only thrown into lobbies with people who have also received such a ban, i.e. with potential cheaters.

This not only leads to long wait times for matchmaking and partly to one high pingbut above all takes care of A lot of frustration, because as soon as you have received such a shadow ban, the chances of winning a match are of course negligible. Streamers in particular are disproportionately banned this way simply because they are flagged up by people who don’t like them or want to get one over on them.

The only way to take action against a shadow ban is to contact Activision Support and hope for a positive verdict. At this point in time, the problem with Ricochet hasn’t surfaced yet official list of problems on. However, it is certainly also in Raven Software’s interest to eliminate the problem as quickly as possible.
