Well-known British television presenter found dead in Greece

ATHENS.- British doctor and journalist Michael Mosley, known for his television broadcasts on nutrition, was found dead on Sunday on the Greek island of Symi, police reported.

His wife had reported him missing to the police on Wednesday night. The presenter, 67, had gone out for a walk and never returned.

Local police officially announced his disappearance on Thursday and firefighters sent a helicopter to try to find him.

Mosley disappeared in an area considered “difficult because it is quite rocky,” stressed the island’s mayor, according to the Greek newspaper Kathimerini.

The police chief of the southern Aegean region, Petros Vassilakis, told AFP that “people on a boat saw a body near a rocky coast,” and that it was the British presenter.

A team of the television Greek public broadcaster ERT was recording in the area where the journalist disappeared when he saw a body.

“When looking at the material that (the cameraman) had recorded, he saw that there was something strange near the fence, 50 meters from the sea,” an ERT journalist said on television.

“We discovered (…) that it was this man (…),” the reporter said.

Mosley became known in the United Kingdom for the dietary advice he gave on television. He also wrote numerous books on the Mediterranean regimen or intermittent fasting.
