It’s not Christmas without it Mom I missed the plane, cult film of the 90s starring Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern. The siege of the McCallister mansion, strenuously and heroically defended by little Kevin, continues to fascinate young and old and his vision is now a consolidated Christmas tradition.
The older ones among you will surely remember that, following the success of the film, it was also released in those years the official game. Home Alone was launched on the NES in North America in 1991, with its European debut a year later on Super Nintendo and SEGA Mega Drive. Over the years, multiple versions of the game have been released with different styles of gameplay, but obviously they all started from the same premise: Kevin, left at home by his parents during the Christmas holidays, had to defend himself against the tap bandits Harry and Marv.
Among the kids who grew up with the Home Alone video game there is also Simon Brewera former Rocksteady Studios who now works as Expert UI Artist for Unbroken Studios. During these Christmas holidays he let himself be carried away by memories and well thought of putting his skills to good use as a UI Artist to reinterpreted in a modern way that game that kept him company in the early 90s: “I loved and hated Home Alone for SEGA Genesis / Mega Drive when I was a kid, and wanted to make something quick and fun for the holidays. So: What if Home Alone was a modern video game?“.
According to Brewer, if it came out today it would be called Home Alone: Siege and would have the most classic of siege preparation screens. Would be a 1v2 competitive game and would feature one player as Kevin and two others on the Tap Bandits team.In the screenshot made by the artist there are a lot of goodies, such as glue gun as a secondary weapon, the diversions between the painstreak and objects like i firecrackers in the inventory.
