Created in the late 1970s
The origin of this flag takes place at the end of the 70s, specifically in 1978, Although over the years it has undergone modifications. Before this design existed, LGBT movements used a pink trianglewhich Adolf Hitler used in the middle of World War II to point out homosexual people.
It was then that artist and activist Gilbert Baker got to work creating this flag in San Francisco. It was first waved at the San Francisco Pride Festival, and Baker was inspired by the song ‘Over the Rainbow’, de Judy Garland.
The origin of the rainbow
Initially, the original design had eight colors: pink, red, orange, yellow, green, turquoise, blue and purplealthough these colors they were changed in the moment in wich Harvey Milk, member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, died.
