Estimates from the study indicate that the holes are only 750 light-years from each other and have masses between 125 and 200 million times that of the Sun’s surface.
Ezequiel Treister, co-author of the study, spoke about it: “Terrestrial optical images showed us the entire galaxy in fusion, Hubble showed us the nuclear regions in high resolution and ALMA showed us the exact location of these two hungry and growing supermassive black holes”.
The Study Prognosis
For Treister, the collision of these two black holes would generate a gravitational charge that will end up affecting us all with its energy.
According to scientists, when these two black holes fully merge, they will form a new galaxy around a newborn “super black hole.”
Fortunately, this astronomical phenomenon will take a few hundred million years, since the Milky Way has an expiration date and will become extinct in about 4.5 billion years, colliding with Andromeda. Therefore, the collision of black holes is a reflection of our final destiny.
