Gwent
After all, everyone has their comfort game, which you can always turn to or return to when you’re having a bad day. CDPR’s card game project Gwent has thus been by my side for a long time and I still play it today, despite the fact that the Polish game studio has basically already confirmed that they will no longer update the game. It’s like an old acquaintance; no matter how much the game has changed in recent years, it’s always brought a good laugh and I’ll keep playing it until it’s time to pull the plug.

Team Fortress 2
The last time I played Team Fortress it was basically unplayable thanks to bot invasions, but for a long time this was a game that served as a daily routine for me between exams and social activities. I still hold The Orange Box as the gaming world’s greatest treasure thanks to the nearly a thousand hours I’ve put into this comical shooter and the best thing about the game was that many matches could end with just hanging out with new friends and waiting out the time for long drawn out CTF matches .

The Counter Strike games
Ratings may have dropped with the Counter Strike hysteria, but I never regret the endless hours I spent going to the nearest Internet cafe during lunch breaks and shooting terrorists with my classmates. I was never really good at this game and remember taking a lot of crap from both friends and Russians online, but I never cared about their competitive rage. I played CS because it was fun, fast and ridiculously addictive.

Overwatch
I haven’t really played Overwatch much since Blizzard dug up its corpse again, penetrated it in all its holes with its greed and stuck a Battle Pass, but for years this game was pure religion to me. Everything from the aesthetics to the heroes’ bullshit abilities appealed to me. It was one of the most brilliant and fun online shooters I’ve ever played, which unfortunately met something of a slow death when priorities at the game studio shifted drastically and interest in this game world cooled down considerably.

Where did all the hours go? (André)

Killzone 2: Multiplayer
I’ve always been selective with my console online experiences, but for quite a while Killzone 2 multiplayer completely dominated and even included a Killzone 2 clan here on GR called RKR. This multiplayer didn’t really do anything new or particularly unique, but I loved the dark tone and satisfying weapons of the series and had many fun nights with friends. I have many fond memories of this powder-filled era…

The Mass Effect games
Every year I start this classic Bioware trilogy and every year it eats up hundreds of precious hours, but those hours are always used to their absolute limit. Granted, I don’t usually change my choice and I’m reminded every time how bitter the ending of Mass Effect 3 actually is, but the hours leading me all the way to the finale are always just as enchanting. I hope to include Mass Effect 4 in this annual tradition, but until then I will continue to spend time creating new Shepards until the end of time…
