The Redmond firm has visibly tangled up its brushes. She offered many PC users running Windows 10 to upgrade their machine to Windows 11, even if it does not have the minimum system requirements.

It would seem that Microsoft is having some difficulty with its servers responsible for offering an upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11. Indeed, the Redmond firm has obviously offered a good number of users with a Windows 10 PC in principle not eligible for an installation of Windows 11, to do the upgrade.

A bug not isolated

On Twitter, @PhantomOfEarth, an Insider known for breaking down Windows builds, was offered the Windows 11 update on a machine not officially supported by Microsoft.

Is this a simple bug or an error on the part of Microsoft? In any case, the problem would not be isolated. On Facebook, one of our readers also told us in the comments of his astonishment when the update was offered to him when his PC did not meet the specifications imposed by Microsoft.

Neowin, which relays the information, was also able to reproduce the problem within a virtual machine whose configuration was very much lower than the minimum configuration required by Microsoft to install Windows 11. With only 2 GB of RAM, a dual-core processor, 60 GB of storage and without a TPM module, the virtualized version of Windows 10 was offered to download and install Windows 11 22H2.

A proposed upgrade but impossible to finalize

Unfortunately for affected users, the joy of finally being offered the upgrade to Windows 11 on their old PC will have been short-lived. By accepting the proposed upgrade offer, the download and installation of Windows 11 fails… because the configuration is not supported. Microsoft has therefore not returned its jacket, and the prerequisites necessary for the installation of Windows 11 have not been modified.

However, if you’re desperate to install on your non-compatible PC, the limitations put in place by Microsoft are still relatively easy to circumvent. You can indeed turn to a utility like Rufus to create a bootable Windows installation device that will bypass Microsoft’s restrictions. And if the configuration of your PC is insufficient to run Windows 11 in the original version, you can turn to a modified version, but unofficial (therefore at your own risk), of Windows 11. This is what allows make Tiny11, a light version of Microsoft’s operating system that does without a TPM chip and secure Boot and is content with only 2 GB of RAM to operate.
