The CEO of Youtube, Susan Wojcickiannounced this Thursday that he will leave his position after nine years to “begin a new chapter” focused on his family and the personal projects that he is “passionate about”.

“25 years ago I made the decision to join a couple of Stanford graduate students who were building a new search engine,” said Wojcicki referring to the co-founders of Google, Larry Page and Sergei Brin, in a statement that was previously sent via email to company workers.

Wojcicki explained that in the last two decades it has become “various hats” at the company and that now is the right time to leave your position.

“I feel empowered to do it because we have an amazing leadership team at YouTube”he added.

Neal Mohan, YouTube’s chief product officer, will take over

“I plan to support Neal and help with the transition, which will include continuing to work with some YouTube teams, training team members, and meeting with creators,” detailed in the text.

He added that, in the long term, he agreed with “Sundar (Pichai, CEO) taking on an advisory role at Google and (parent company) Alphabet.”

Via Twitter, the account of YouTube Creators thanked Wojcicki for his “incredible job over the years to make YouTube a home for so many creators.”

Susan Wojcicki, who was previously the Senior Vice President of Ad Products at Google, became YouTube’s CEO in 2014.

Wojcicki was one of Google’s first employees and has been with the parent company for nearly 25 years. Alphabet Inc.

Before Google, Wojcicki worked at intel corp and Bain & Company.
