Zelda Breath of the Wild is now playable in multiplayer. Nothing official unfortunately, but the result of the passion of two modders: AlexMangue and Sweet. It all started with streamer Pointcrow who launched a project call in 2021 to realize his wildest dream: to travel the lands of Hyrule with his friends, face the bosses together and obviously shoot each other in the paws from time to time. He then offered a reward of 10,000 dollars to anyone who managed to create a mod multiplayer for Zelda BOTW fully functional. The duo then embarked on this quest and 9 months later the fruit of their labor is finally available.
The result is so stunning that Big N has started hunting down promotional videos highlighting this unofficial mode. The Youtubeur has indeed indicated that all the videos he published following the launch of the Zelda Breath of the Wild multiplayer mod suffered the wrath of Nintendo. “ I’m incredibly disappointed that Nintendo decided to block my Zelda BOTW videos. It’s community love and innovation that has kept the license alive and brought new people to love the Zelda series. I hope you will reconsider your decision soon “, he said in a tweet on April 7, 2023. After a call, a few rare videos are visible again but demonetized.
On April 4, 2023, the multiplayer of Zelda Breath of the Wild has nevertheless been made available to the general public via the server Discord de PointCrow. Interested players can find the mod in question in the “mod-downloads” show where the link allowing access to the precious is found. All instructions for installation are then noted in Google Docs. To take advantage of it, you will nevertheless have to go through a Nintendo Switch emulator, or take the risk of tweaking your console at the risk of being banned, while having a legal copy of Zelda BOTW.
