A group of 15 migrants of Cuban origin were detained on Sunday night after disembarking in Key WestFlorida.
The rafters landed in a “homemade boat” in the area of Smathers Beachaccording to Samuel Briggs II, chief of the Miami Sector of the Border Patrol, in X.
“They will be processed for deportation proceedings”was the only conclusion the authority had, who indicated that “agents from the United States Border Patrol participated in the operation along with other associated agencies.”
Local 10for his part, stated that The migrants reached the coast through the area of the seawall South Roosevelt Boulevard and that no one was injured.
At the time of writing this note, there were no other details about the case.
The flood of Cubans to the United States, whether by sea or land, shows no signs of ending.
Nearly 19,000 Cubans entered the U.S. through its borders in the month of May aloneaccording to monthly data published by the Customs and Border Protection Office (CBP).
Of the total, 7,491 did so by sea, confirming that the influx of Cuban rafters to the United States continues.
The U.S. government continues to insist that all persons who attempt or arrive illegally by sea will be barred from remaining in the country, will be prosecuted in accordance with U.S. laws and policies, and returned to their country of origin or the country of departure.
Migrants who arrive by sea and are detained by the Border Patrol after touching U.S. soil are processed for return to their country of origin by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Office of Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), with a ban on legally re-entering that country for five years.
Despite attempts by authorities to dissuade Cuban rafters, illegal migration by sea remains an option for those who want to leave the country at all costs and have no other way to do so.
