The year 2023 promises great news for entertainment and, among them, is the launch of several national series. After the success of Under pressure, aruanas, mother’s candyamong others, streamings decided to bet even more on Brazilian audiovisual production.

The first to debut in the year was prying eyes, a Netflix original release featuring Débora Nascimento, Emanuelle Araujo, Débora Duarte, Nikolas Antunes and Ângelo Rodrigues. The plot tells the story of a hacker and voyeur who sees her life change completely after a call girl moves into the building across from hers.

But, besides her, there is still a list with several names that will be released this year. It has options for dramas, comedies, police series and even children’s productions. With that in mind, we have listed 10 national series for you to watch in 2023.

10. Life Ahead

Directed by Leandra Leal and Bruno Safadi (aruanas), Life Ahead There is still no confirmed release date, but it is already known that it will be shown and produced by Globoplay in partnership with Daza Filmes and GNT.

The plot begins, in the 1990s, on the night of a costume party that celebrates the graduation from high school of a group of friends. Everything was going well, but the happiness was interrupted when Beta committed suicide at the age of 17. From then on, time moves forward and young people, already in college, will have to deal with the pain of grief and the problems of youth.

Thought to have ten episodes, the series will address a sensitive topic, which is the mental health of teenagers. Who signs the script is Lucas Paraizo, the same as Under pressure — another Globoplay success.

In addition to directing, Leandra Leal will also act as the mother of two of the teenagers in the group. Other names quoted for the production are Henrique Barreira, Nina Tomsic and Flora Camolese.

9. Every Day the Same Night

Another series coming to streaming in 2023 is Every Day the Same Night, inspired by the homonymous book by Daniela Arbex. The drama will tell the story of the Kiss nightclub fire, which happened in the city of Santa Maria, in Rio Grande do Sul, in 2013 and killed more than 200 young people.

The story will be fictional, produced by Netflix with the intention of not letting a tragedy of this size fall into oblivion. The general direction was with Julia Rezende, who commented on the production:

“It is a great responsibility to tell a fictional story inspired by a true event that destroyed the lives of so many people and shocked the country. We want to give light, in the most sensitive and honorable way possible, to the perspective of those who lived all that up close, and still live”.

Every Day the Same Night will have five episodes and has premiere scheduled for January 25.

8. New Cangaço

Scheduled to hit Prime Video, cangaço new tells the story of Ubaldo, a young man who is “heir to cangaço” and goes to the backlands of Ceará to meet his two sisters Dilvânia and Dinorah. While the former leads a group of worshipers of her late father, the latter is the only woman in a gang of bank robbers.

Upon arriving at the scene, Ubaldo becomes exalted, due to the physical resemblance he has to his father, and sees his life turn upside down when he has to deal with bandits, corrupt police and murderers.

Directed by Aly Muritiba and Fábio Mendonça, cangaço new was recorded in Campina Grande and Cabaceiras, in the Brazilian Northeast, and features Hermila Guedes, Thainá Duarte, Ricardo Blat, Marcélia Cartaxo and the protagonist Allan Souza Lima.

7. River Connection

Starring Renata Sorrah, Maria Casadevall, Marina Ruy Barbosa, Aksel Ustun, Alexandre David and Nicolas Prattes, River Connection is set in 1970s Rio de Janeiro and tells the story of European criminals who turned the city into a hub for heroin trafficking to the United States.

In addition to the Brazilian actors, Globoplay’s production features the Italian Valerio Morigi, who has starred in series such as barbarians and movies like Saphronand with Raphael Kahn, who has appeared in emily in paris.

It is worth remembering that this series is a partnership between Globo, Floresta and Sony and will be entirely recorded in English.

6. The Others

Another series that arrives at Globoplay in 2023 and deserves attention is The Others. Based on a screenplay by Fernanda Torres and written by Lucas Paraizo (the rebu, Under pressure), the production tells the story of two middle-class families in Rio de Janeiro who disagree over a fight between two teenagers in the condominium court.

From then on, the character of Adriana Esteves makes a decision that has serious consequences for her life: buying a gun.

With a very dramatic and heavy plot, the series talks about current society and the problems of facilitating access to firearms. Paraizo commented on the subject with the press during the 2022 CCXP:

“It’s a series that talks about Brazilians, about Brazilian society. It was inspired by stories that we see in journalism every day, which take place in condominiums in cities across Brazil.”

In addition to Adriana — who has played iconic characters in soap operas, such as the villainous Carminha de Brazil Avenue — the cast includes Milhem Cortaz, Thomás Aquino and Eduardo Sterblitch, who will be the main villain of the work.

The Others there is still no confirmed date to arrive in the Globoplay catalogue.

5. Their Story

Star+ also decided to invest in national productions and, in 2023, launches Their Story. The series tells the lives of four women from different generations and social classes, all forced to live under the same roof. The production will feature Cris Vianna, Letícia Spiller, Bia Arantes and Emma Araújo, in addition to Marcelo Várzea, Johnnas Oliva and Augusto Madeira.

Not many details have been released yet, but it is already known that the series will be a drama and will address topics such as the relationship between mother and daughter, social, cultural and family heritage.

4. DNA of the Crime

Leaving the drama and going to police productions, in 2023 the miniseries arrives in the Netflix catalog DNA of the Crimecreated by Heitor Dhalia (The Smell of the Drain). The work will tell the story of a robbery on the border between Brazil and Paraguay, revealing the foundations of crime in our country.

The confirmed names to star in the production are Rômulo Braga, Thomás Aquino and Maeve Jinkings. The last two worked together on nightjar and repeat the partnership now in the series.

It is worth remembering that the story is inspired by a real event that took place in Paraguay, in 2017, and was set in Foz do Iguaçu, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Brasília.

The premiere date has yet to be confirmed by Netflix.

3. Muse Music

For those who like music, music muse, another Globoplay series in 2023, promises to please. She talks about the story of a young woman who decides to change her neighborhood through art and for that she has the help of several mythological gods. Everything was going well until one of these goddesses falls in love with a human and can lose everything.

Starring Nicolas Prattes, Thabata Almeida and Bel Lima, the production will be signed by Rosane Svartman (Dream Workout, Totally Awesome) and will have two versions: a more adult one for Globoplay and a more childish one for Gloob.

2. Two-stroke

Starring Sol Menezzes and Mari Oliveira, the series Two times tells the story of two women who travel through time and switch places. While one lives in 1922, the other is in 2022. Together, they will have to find a way to resolve this situation and return to the right time.

With eight episodes, the production was scheduled to debut in 2022, but as that did not happen, it should arrive in the Star+ catalog in the first quarter of 2023.

1. Betinho

Life Ahead is not the only production that Leandra Leal will star in 2023: the actress and director will also be in Betinho. The Globoplay series will tell the life of sociologist and human rights activist, Herbert de Souza, who dedicated himself to various social projects, including the Citizenship Action against Hunger, Misery and for Life.

The cast completes Júlio Andrade, Irles Carvalho, Marieta Severo, Andréia Horta, Humberto Carrão and Ravel Andrade.
