New race, and new surprise at the Alpine Skiing World Championships. On the occasion of the ladies’ descent on the Roc de Fer, Saturday, February 11, we expected the leaders of the discipline. But it was ultimately Jasmine Flury, 29 years old and only one World Cup victory so far, who won, to the delight of the many Swiss public and her bells.
Starting with bib number 2, the Swiss set a benchmark time that was only approached by Nina Ortlieb (Austria), in silver for four hundredths. The only favorite in the game, Corinne Suter is content with bronze. A nice consolation prize for the Swiss, given the fate reserved for other references in the discipline.
Sofia Goggia, the picket line
Go figure, the other leaders were perhaps on strike on this day of national mobilization. Which would explain their absenteeism in the finish area… The fact remains that we witnessed a parade of disappointments on the Roc de Fer. Big favorite of the day, Sofia Goggia, who had dominated training, quickly appeared in difficulty in the Roc de Fer. Still in the fight for the podium in the final wall, she lost all hope of a medal by stepping over a door.
Ilka Stuhec (6th), Lara-Gut Behrami (9th) and Ragnhild Mowinckel (10th) crossed the finish line well, but too far from their standards and therefore from the podium. Side Tricolores, no good surprise. In their standards, Laura Gauché (12th) and Romane Miradoli (15th) finished outside the top 10. The young Anouck Errard completed her first world championship run two seconds from the lead and gained experience for the future, from the top of his 23 years.
