Napoli had to wait 33 years for their third Italian league title. When nearly 13,000 traveling away supporters celebrated wildly after the final whistle, the security officials were in a hurry.

Since 2001, the Italian league title has been claimed by Juventus and the two Milan teams AC Milan and Internazionale Milan.

If you extend the time span by another ten years, Roma and Lazio are added to the list, but the greater diversity will not be among the league winners.

This year it was finally time for a team from southern Italy.

After a 33-year wait, Napoli secured the title on Thursday night.

A 1–1 draw away to Udinese was enough to extend the lead to become unassailable for second-placed Lazio.

The league title is Napoli’s third and the first without club legend Diego Maradona.

The Scudetto was celebrated wildly among the Napoli supporters

Close to 13,000 supporters had traveled to Udine from Naples to witness the historic feat.

When the final whistle sounded, joy erupted and Napoli’s supporters stormed the pitch to celebrate with the players.

The big security risk in the whole thing was that even Udinese’s supporters managed to get past the security arrangements and onto the field.

Fights between the fans could not be avoided and many ended up running back into the stands to take cover.

Some were taken out on stretchers after accidents.

When the situation calmed down, Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti and captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo were able to return to the pitch and celebrate with the away supporters who had traveled there.
