A German man in Stuttgart has been sentenced to a suspended sentence of two years for supporting the jihadist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham.

The Higher Regional Court also imposed a suspended condition of 50,000 euros on the 43-year-old on Friday. It found him guilty of supporting a foreign terrorist organization.

Between 2017 and 2020 he gave a fighter in Syria a total of 4,600 euros, the court said. The fighter is a long-time friend of the accused who is a jihadist fighting for the establishment of a theocracy in Syria.

The accused confessed. The verdict is not yet final, an appeal to the Federal Court of Justice is possible. (AFP)
