A 7-year-old girl with Down syndrome was rescued from a swimming pool in Lauderhill and taken to a hospital in critical condition, city police said.

At approximately 8:57 am police received a 911 call regarding a girl found in a swimming pool at 5240 14 Place NW Lauderhill. When they arrived, officers found the girl’s family trying to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on her.

Officers took charge of the CPR until the arrival of Lauderhill firefighters, who continued efforts to save his life, police said. The girl was transported to Broward Health in Fort Lauderdale where she arrived with a pulse, according to the report.

Police said an investigation has been opened into this case.
