8-year-old boy stabbed to death in Queens, suspect dies

An 8-year-old boy has died and two adults are recovering after being stabbed during a domestic dispute in Jamaica, Queens, police said.

Responding officers shot the suspect after he refused to drop a knife. Hours later the attacker succumbed to his injuries.

The incident occurred on Thursday shortly after 5 p.m. According to the police, a 29-year-old woman ran out of an apartment building on 94th Avenue asking for help, after having been stabbed in the back.

Upon entering the premises, officers found a 20-year-old man holding his 43-year-old father and holding a knife to his throat. Police say officers gave at least four commands, in English and Spanish, to the suspect to drop the gun.

When he refused, he was shot and later taken to hospital wounded.

An 8-month-old girl was also found unharmed in the apartment.

Patrol Chief John Chell said at a news conference that the quick decisions police officers must make while on duty, as in this case, allowed two lives to be saved.

The injured man and woman are expected to survive. Police are investigating how the 8-year-old boy died and the cause of the incident. The suspect is believed to be his brother or half-brother.
