9-year-old girl breaks record by registering for university exam

A nine year old girl broke the record for precocity of students enrolled in the final high school exams in Franceaccording to the Ministry of Education, which confirmed this Friday that more than 728,000 young people will take the exam that opens the doors of the university.

The precocious student, of primary school age, presents herself on her own, is linked to a Strasbourg and appears in the records of the National Center for Distance Education (CNED), within the specialty of mathematics and physics and chemistry, reports the newspaper ‘Le Figaro’.

“It has been a long time since we had someone so young,” acknowledged the general director of education, Édouard Geffray, and confessed that he was “surprised” to see the candidate’s age.

Last year, the youngest applicant was 12 years old, although he did not obtain enough grade to access the requested university education.

On the opposite side, the oldest student in the 2024 call is 76 years old.

According to reported La Presse, the baccalaureate was instituted by decree of March 17, 1808 and its first edition, in the form of exclusively oral tests, took place in 1809. The first holders of the diploma were only 31. The first woman to obtain it, Julie-Victoire Daubié obtained it in 1861, at the age of 37.
