What happened on a day like today? Every year on May 3, various events are remembered in Peru, such as the birth of one of the youngest presidents the country has ever had, as well as various Catholic festivities that are already a tradition in our country. The inauguration of one of the most important avenues in Lima was also given.

One of the heroes of Peruvian and continental independence was don José Mariano de la Riva Agüero and Sánchez-Boquete; who was precisely born on a day like today, but in the year 1783.

As a politician, he was the first president of Peru (in 1823) to use this title and to wear the presidential sash, which demonstrated the position he held, despite the fact that the nature of his power was factual. Four months after taking office, he was succeeded by the Marquis José Bernardo de Tagle y Portocarrero.

After several vicissitudes and exiles, he finally returned to Lima in 1843, but only to dedicate himself to agricultural activities and to write his memoirs.

At the age of 75, de la Riva Agüero died on May 21, 1858 and is buried in the family mausoleum of the Maestro Presbytero Cemetery.

That was the case of Felipe Santiago Salaverry del Solar, who was born on a day like today, but in 1806.

An enlightened soldier, with great talent for writing, he became the president of Peru at just 29 years of age, after overthrowing the president Luis José de Orbegoso in 1835.

However, the coup adventure only lasted a year, since a year later he was defeated in his confrontation against the president of Bolivia, Andrew of Santa Cruzand was shot after a summary trial, despite being promised that they would not kill him.

One of the four districts that make up the province of Casma (Áncash) is the district of Commander Clauswhich was politically created on a day like today, but from 1926.

This was thanks to Law 5444, promulgated during the term of President Augusto B. Leguía.

This district, which is approaching its centenary, has 22.76 km² and a population of more than two thousand inhabitants. Its capital is the town Puerto Casma.

One of the most important days in the province of tarma It is every May 3, when the festival is celebrated in honor of the Lord of Muruhuay.

What is celebrated on this day is the appearance of an image of crucified christ on a rock in Acobamba, Tarma district.

On a day like today, but in 1992, the longest avenue in all of Metropolitan Lima was officially inaugurated by the capital’s burgomaster of that time, Richard Belmont.

It receives the name of University, since it runs through important houses of study, beginning with the National University of San Marcos and the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, the University of Sciences and Humanities and the Private University of the North.

In its more than 15 kilometers of extension, it unites the districts of San Miguel, Free TownLima, San Martin de Porres, Los Olivos, Comas and Carabayllo.
