A delegation from Kenya arrives in Haiti to assess the situation

Prince Port.- A A delegation from Kenya, the country that agreed to lead an international peacekeeping force to help Haiti combat violence, arrived in the impoverished Caribbean nation on Sunday to assess the situation, which continues to deteriorate.

This was confirmed to EFE by a member of the press office of the Prime Minister, Ariel Henry, the highest authority in Haiti after the assassination in July 2021 of President Jovenel Moise by an armed commando that assaulted his private residence.

The source assured that the delegation will meet with Henry, but at the moment neither the Government nor the National Police have provided information about the evaluation visit.

On July 29, Kenya announced that it will deploy 1,000 police officers in Haiti to help restore normalcy in the country in the face of the extreme violence crisis that is shaking the Caribbean nation.

The Kenyan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alfred Mutua, stated then that, “at the request of the Group of Nations Friends of Haiti, Kenya agreed to consider positively the possibility of leading a Multinational Force in Haiti.”

The Prime Minister of Haiti has been insisting since October on the need for an international force to help pacify this nation, a call to which figures such as the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, or the Dominican President, Luis Abinader, have joined. that warns of the repercussions of the Haitian crisis in his country, since both share the island of Hispaniola.

Haiti is experiencing a situation of extreme violence and much of Port-au-Prince and its surroundings are under the control of armed gangs, forcing thousands of their neighbors to leave their homes and become internally displaced.
