A final between the royals of England and Spain

BERLIN-. Spain e England will meet in the European Championship final on Sunday, with all eyes on the wonderkid and whether one of the teams that has promised the most but delivered the least could end its decades-long wait for a title.

The meeting is in Berlin and is expected to be attended by Prince William of England, King Felipe of SpainSpanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and the new British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Spain is seeking a record fourth title, tying Germany for its first title since 2012. The team’s new superstar is winger Lamine Yamal, a teenage prodigy who turned 17 on Saturday.

England, the birthplace of football, have not won a major men’s title since the 1966 World Cup and that was on home soil. This is their second successive Euro final after losing on penalties to Italy three years ago.

The teams have taken opposite paths to the final at Berlin’s Olympiastadion – the 71,000-seat venue that was built for the 1936 Olympics and hosted the 2006 World Cup final.

Spain won all six of their matches and are already considered the best team at Euro 2024, having knocked out Germany and France in the knockout stages. England failed to impress in the group stage but have shown resilience in subsequent encounters after coming from behind in all three knockout matches.
