The government of Iran executed a former deputy defense minister after being charged as a spy for the UK. It was about Alireza Akbari, a man with dual citizenship who was convicted of “corruption of the land” and acting against national security for functioning as a British spy.

Akbari was Deputy Defense Minister.

According to the Government of the Asian nation, Akbari had started working for MI6 in 2004, where he leaked information from various people in the upper echelons of the army to the British Government for 5 years, until the European country recommended that he leave. Iran in 2009. He eventually returned home for a visit that was approved by the state in 2019, but was detained by security forces for more than three years until he was found guilty.
